SENSE Study

Investigating how full- and pre-term babies experience touch and how this shapes sensory experiences and behaviours in toddlers.

Baby's Hand

Our Research Study

The SENSE study is a collaboration between University College London (UCL), UCL Hospital and Birkbeck, University of London.

Our team studies how the brain responds when newborn babies experience touch, and how this differs between babies born full-term and born prematurely (before 37 week's gestation).

We invite families to come and visit us at the Birkbeck Babylab at 18- and 30-months to see how these early experiences shape development.

How do we recruit families?

We recruit families in a few different ways:

- Face-to-face at the UCL Hospital (newborns)

- Via the Birkbeck Babylab database (6+ months)

- By spreading the word: have you got an (almost) 18-month-old? Get in touch!

You can join our study at each stage and we will contact you when your next questionnaires/visit is coming up.
